It's really an amazing occasion you got to visit Alexandria. I was a lucky one too:). I made a tour through the north-eastern African countries and it's still the most beautiful experience I had.Well..about the trains, Mahattat Masr also known as Masr station is the main train terminal there. There are Cairo-bound trains that leave every hour from 5am to 10pm. The Spanish trains though, like Turbini or Espani, leave the main station at 7am, 8am, 3pm, and 7pm.
