The Islamic district in cairo is, in my opinion, as marvellous as all the other sites here. The mosque in Al_Azhar and the university in the same area(the oldest university in the world) are definitely worth seeing. The Islamic area is accessible by cab, is you simply mention Al_Hussein or just walk to the east from downtown.
